Hi M y l e s, I'm making this comment because I need help as soon as possible. And it was wondering if I could talk to you or meet with you in regards to my 30 three-year-old son, who was diagnosed when he was about 15 years old, finally, that he had not only F. A. SD but AD HD severely and several other disabilities. But those were the 2 that we focused on when he was younger. Because we didn't know what was wrong. We had adopted him from social services and found out that his mother had continued drinking and drove in during the pregnancy. So Peter ended up suffering with all these disabilities. We've managed over the years, me and my ex-husband but it's coming to the point. Now, what are we need help? I'm 66 and just had a stroke during the Pan. Demic, so it's left me in a wheelchair. I am trying to desperately still live independently, but it's hard because I'm still having to care for Peter. I guess me and my ex kinda did things wrong and just did what we could to survive another day. So I guess in a way we. Empowered him a while later. You say it trying to keep him out of the. Legal system You know, wanting him to get a career or a trade. But nothing we did seem to work. He's not a bad person. He's actually quite a nice guy. He does help his friends out a lot. But I've been telling him Peter. I could really use your help. I'm just able to know forever and I need you to help me but he doesn't hardly ever. He calls us horrible names, me, and my ex-husband is really hurting my ex-husband he called me today and said that he believes he's gonna end up in emergency or dead because he can't handle the stress any longer. So that's what I'm reaching out to find out if there's anything we can do to get him changed back around and all. Or is it too late and we just have to let go? And whatever happens happens. I didn't want to do that because I worked with people like that. 420 years and I know how it turns out usually. If you can. If you want to call me , my number is 3065366033 and I live in regina , and i'm always home , usually , ha ha ha

At about 27 minutes in and talking about some children with FASD not being able to bond to their adoptive parents from the day they were born, it very much seems there's an overlap with an Autistism Spectrum Disorder. A child can have that and on top of it be damaged by FASD. Comorbidity happens all the time and I find it much more likely that autism prevented a child from attaching in such cases. When a child was left in the care of a mother with mental health issues, self-medicating on alcohol and drugs, yeah, then of course that is often the cause for attachment disorders. And even then, a child could have both, making the attachment quite impossible, even when the birth mother had been able to attach securely to her child.

At 14:20 that is the understatement of the year "a little bit more needy"... When we got our foster son at 5 years old, he was by far the most aggressive person I had met in my life and career in governmental youth care. After spending two hours with him, you'd be exhausted! My husband and I alternated and we only 'survived' because we could bring him to kindergarten for some time of the day. All possible problems a five-year-old can have, were combined in him. It was a Major Task, which we did extremely well. As thank you, we've been abused severely ourselves by a system, which ought to have supported us. I hate Germany!

Makes so much sense, the part about being thought of as just lazy, but if he’d tried to object he’d have to’ve admitted he couldn’t do the work. So, he just accepted it and acted the part. It really sheds a different light on what we think of as learning disabilities. A child who has a problem with memory, like so many FASD kids do, wouldn’t be helped by traditional LD teaching techniques. *It made me really angry that a religious family, in particular, would kick their 15-year old out of the house. Their failure to provide for his needs, to where he had to drop out of school, is astonishing. It’s also illegal.

Hello, I just found out that I'm a FASD and I'm turning 40 next year, I really would like some help with this. To know what to say or deal with myself when I'm with my partner. I have two kids I didn't drink or do drugs with them, I did smoke cigarettes with my daughter when I was pregnant with her. I'm no longer in my kids lives because I live in Alberta and my kids live in Saskatchewan, it's hard for me to go see them because I just got divorced from my girl dad in April 4 2022. I went thew mental and emotional abuse when I was married when I went threw when I was in foster care, And sexual abuse too. I went threw two marriage and two divorces. I can say I got two beautiful kids out of the marriage.

The thing with this is that you talk about children and teenagers with RAD. I have RAD and grew up when no one was looking for this, so behavioural issues meant I was just a bad kid. Once you are living outside of "the village" to use your description, then life is hard. RAD never goes away, you have it forever. Over a lifetime RAD is super destructive up against a normal society.

I am so glad to find this! My mum drank (weekend binges with my father, according to my biological sister)when pregnant with both my brother and me. I have the behavioral as well as the facial/finger signs, but weirdly, I am at the high end IQ-wise. I also have the psychological issues--the rages/ tantrums, depression, as well as issues with childhood sexual/physical emotional abuse. I don't know if my adopted parents didn't understand the actual kind of issues actually in play with a child with FASD--I doubt it because I grew up in the 1950s and 60s, before FASD became a discrete diagnosis. Parents also neglected me because of their drinking and asocial issues. I was put into foster homes where the early abuse happened followed by abuse by adoptive father--stuff I'm still slogging my way through. I have lived on my own after leaving home at 20. I got thrown out of three schools but did manage to make it all the way through parochial grade school and public high school. I also have gotten fired three or four times over the years but managed to work fairly steadily. Had a period of homelessness of a bit over a year. Had an abusive girlfriend. Married but my wife left me three years ago. She said I was abusive and when I had meltdowns in public, that I was blaming her for whatever. I told her many times that no, she wasn't to blame but stopped after over a hundred times. She does have a history of sexual abuse as a child and early teens, and honestly tried NOT to be abusive to her. I'm sending her a link to this so maybe she'll get an idea of what is going on. Judging from my brother's record, my parents eventually gave up their parental rights because they realised that they couldn't adequately care for my brother or me. I do sense that they loved us, but just couldn't give us the care and attention we needed. I do realise that, but life would have so much easier had they not engaged in heavy drinking. I had problems with (especially) my adoptive father. After his death, my adoptive mother told me that he'd told her that I didn't like him, so he must have picked up on something. from me. My semi-alienation from my adoptive mother came much much later , from my twenties on. My adoptiveparents gave me intellectual and cultural advantages that my birth parents could never have given me and I appreciate that, but it still doesn't take away my PTSD and the pain of my foster parents and adopted father. Yes, my adoptive father was abused as a child, but I don't think that that was any excuse for the abuse. I never had children because I am aware that abused children often grow up to be abusers themselves, so I decided that I would break the cycle of abuse. Thank you for this wonderful video. Now I understand much more about FASD than I did before watching it. I've sent a link to the video and asked her to watch this before we chat next week. I think that she got all the wrong information from the group for parents of FASD groups she networked with. Most of the FASD children whose parents were in the group have major intellectual parents. I don't think that she understands that no two people with FASD are exactly alike/ Hopefully she will gain insight once she's watched it. Anyhow, great talk and thank you for posting.

I feel like my niece has this disorder, her mother ( my sister) abandoned her on to my 65 years old mother and I’ve ask mom to put her in counseling to get my niece some help but she won’t do it and I don’t understand why? My niece is seven years old and my sister never developed a bond with her child or her other three adult children. My mother has had my niece sense she was four months old and my sister comes in and out of her life. Sometimes it seems like my niece is getting better but most of the time it seems like her behavioral issues are getting worse and I am at a point to where I don’t want her around my little girl for safety reasons. She fights with all my mothers grandchildren in the family and so most of them don’t come around as often anymore because they don’t know how interact or even play with her. My niece is really smart so she doesn’t have learning disabilities but she does have adhd and my sister did do drugs while pregnant with her but I don’t know is did alcohol too. My 21 year old daughter has adhd she can control it better now but it was hell for a lot of years but the kind of issues my niece has are so alarming. My niece hurts animals, I thought she was over the hurting animals but a couple months ago I caught her holding my cat down and beating him in his head with her fist, he is old so he just cry’s and doesn’t even bite her and he is terrified of her. She killed my daughters hamster this past summer, she squeezed him to death on purpose. I told her the hamster was dead and she laughed. I asked her why she killed the hamster and she said because she didn’t have a pet but I had a cat and my daughter had the hamster as a pet. She was jealous because her grandmother wouldn’t let her have a pet. She has her own pug dog and she doesn’t hurt it but I still catch her hurting my cat. She is very jealous of my little girl over my little girls paternal grandmother, grandfather, siblings and her father. She fights with my mom as soon as my little girl goes out the door with her father and grandparents. If my daughter comes in with a toy she brought from her grandparents house my niece waits for my daughter to put the toy then grabs it goes and hides and brakes the toy to pieces. She hides food she has a bunch of hiding places around the house my moms counselor says my niece is eating her feelings and may have also went without food when she was in my sisters care. She also molested my daughters brother when my daughters grandmother did let her go to her house. My sister has let both her girls get molested by her boyfriends. Anyway I am planning on getting us a apartment and letting mom have this house we’re renting together because my niece is just to much of a risk to my child. I feel so bad for my niece her problems are all due to my sister not taking responsibility of her child.

He uses the example of animals on the Prairie or tundra, saying they must attach immediately. But then goes on to say human attachment is from 6 to 18 months. Why? He must be talking to adopting parents. Because it is now known that attachment for children is immediate. He talked about babies in the nursery two days old recognizing their miles. Absolutely contradicts himself.
